Two members made a splash and dash at The Great East 5k open water swim on Saturday afternoon. The event staged at Alton Water saw Mick Lowther and Carolyn Stewart battle it out with 164 swimmers, some elite, some just doing it for fun. Lowther had a strong swim to finish 99th overall and 9th in his age category (40-44) with a tremendous 1 hour 32 minutes 42 seconds with Stewart hot on his heals recording 1 hour 33 minutes 20 seconds finishing 28th female overall.
On Sunday three club members took on the sunshine at the Walden Sprint distance triathlon. The race which is based at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre, Saffron Walden saw 117 triathletes line up for the 400 metre pool swim, 25K cycle and 5k off-road run. It was the consistent Eugene Husband that crossed the line first for the club. Husband who was second overall in last months Newmarket triathlon continued his fine form to finish 5th overall and second in his age category (40-44) with a creditable 1 hour 12 minutes 01 seconds. Hayley Brewis put on a stunning display in the ladies race to clinch 5th overall and first in her age category (50-54) stopping the clock on 1 hour 31 minutes 16 seconds with Ian Storey having a strong race to finish in 1 hour 39 minutes 10 seconds.
