Thorpe Triumphs at the Vitruvian
Emma Thorpe of Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club triumphed at the Vitruvian Triathlon at Rutland Water on Sunday. The 1.9km swim, 84km Cycle and 21km Run was raced over a gruelling but picturesque course in warm conditions. After a steady swim Emma put in a fast bike leg and finished off with a great run leg to blow away her nearest competitors to win her age category by 5minutes. Also competing were fellow club members Angie Girgis and Neil Payne. Angie who started off with a very strong swim leg just missed out on a podium place by finishing fourth in her age category. Neil had a steady race and despite suffering on the final run section managed to beat his previous best on the Rutland Water course by nearly 4 minutes. The Vitruvian draws to a close, what has been, a successful triathlon season for the NC&TC athletes.
